About Cath

Cath was born in New Zealand to vast stretches of open countryside, green hills, deep blue lakes and vast fields…and the horses that wandered those hills with whom she has worked since she was seven years old. From then on she has fine honed her talents into a close up and personal approach based on both horse and human body language…a knowledge that comes from hands-on experience, and a complete understanding of her craft combining the lessons learned from her years of schooling and travel to produce award-winning world-class horses…and the people who ride them.

She has been trained by and worked with horse men and women all over the world. Her ability to absorb their teaching and distill their words, actions and skills into her own natural talents and abilities has formed an extensive experience covering many fields of expertise from freelance training in Dubai to managing an equestrian centre in Jakarta, from teaching at a London Riding School to working at Ralvon Arabian Horse Stud in Australia, from attending courses held by Captain Mark Phillips and Andrew Hoy to working with the Italian National Vaulting Team implementing new training methods for schooling their horses.

Her over 30 years in the field have made her an expert in many aspects of horsemanship, with experience in dressage, show jumping, eventing, sidesaddle, film work, even breaking in wild and untouched horses, riding in specially organized events, teaching riders from all disciplines, holding clinics on riding, horse management and horse behavior.

Cath has a kind of magic; the ability to read a horse's body language so she can 'talk' to horses about humans and talk to humans about horses. A hands-on approach that includes establishing understanding and rapport with 'problem' horses and at times 'problem riders' working to find solutions to improve communication and behavior ensuring that the horse is working to his best physical abilities and is mentally in condition to respond to the riders requirements.

Between her riding, travel and training commitments, she has finished her first book, 'Catching Fred…Learning to Trust Humans'  about a wild-eyed untouched New Zealand range horse everyone said she would never ride….and how it came about that she did.

Her experience in the 'equine industry' stems first from her own business in New Zealand breaking in horses, training and teaching locally, specializing in all fields including natural horsemanship, round-pen and liberty work. Her talent and innate curiosity has taken her all over the world enabling her to interact with both animals and people with a result that she has collected an extensive experience that is not only vast but well-rounded and comprehensive of all aspects of equitation.

Travel is a most welcome and enjoyed part of her life, as she is not only a horse person but also a 'people person' and as such is able to establish an honest credibility with friends, acquaintances and clients from all backgrounds, walks of life…and levels of instruction. Her well-developed public relations and communication skills combine easily with strong leadership and time proven training methods which are woven together with a talent for the organization and planning of everyday instruction to a wide range of equestrian and promotional events. Thanks to her extended stays in Italy, she also speaks fluent Italian.
